“Bursa’s Forgotten Treasure: Gezek”
Gezek was the name of a community living in one of the neighborhoods of Bursa, akin to one of the rich mosaics of the Ottoman Empire. However, with the passage of time and the process of urban modernization, the unique culture and way of life of Gezek gradually faded away.
Gezek was like a microcosm. As you wandered through its narrow streets, you could feel the vibrancy of colorful markets and the rows of traditional houses. The people living here carried a sense of community spirit that strengthened neighborhood bonds. The distinctive architecture and streets of Gezek seemed to resist the flow of time, but the wave of modernization slowly began to erase this fabric.
Today, it is difficult to find the liveliness of Gezek’s old days. Old houses have been demolished, streets widened, and traditional crafts forgotten. However, some still strive to revive the spirit of Gezek. Restoration projects based on old photographs are underway to remind people of the past, and the local community is making efforts to pass down the history of Gezek to future generations.
About Me

YAREN YILDIRIM
EU YOUTH WORKER
Hello everyone
I'm Yaren! I am 24 years old. I am a senior student of International Relations. I am also an EU Project Assistant. I work as a youth worker at Kültür Eğitim ve Proje Derneği (KEPDER).
I love traveling and getting to know different cultures, both for my work and as a hobby. When visiting different countries, I always feel how valuable it is to meet people and discover their lifestyles, values and beliefs. Photography deepens these experiences even more because each frame offers an opportunity to capture the essence of a culture, which encourages me to think more and learn more about cultural diversity.
